Labuan Bajo, The Port Town with Cool Boats!

Every post doesn’t have to be so serious (cue Joker voice), and that is something that I have a hard time understanding. I want every post to be accurate, informational, fulfilling, and maybe even obsessionally so. What can I say, that’s just me. What does that leave out though? You guessed it, heart!

This is my attempt to loosen up and just write! I don’t know if you noticed, but I don’t do that very often. Most of my posts are logical, methodical, and maybe even a little robotic. Looking at my girlfriend Sidney’s style of writing made me realize that I need a little heart in what I say. I know, I know, it is going to read like an awkward middle schooler trying to talk to a girl just two days after he realized he even liked girls (I’ve been reading “The Wimpy Kid” a little too much it seems)… but I have to start somewhere.

Let’s start with this: Labuan Bajo, Indonesia

The port town seen from the sea.

To many, including myself, it was a pit stop on our way to Komodo National Park. In my opinion though, there aren’t many port towns like this anymore. Just look at these cool boats:

I know that they are just for the tourism industry, and for the recent wave of higher class travelers who seek a little more comfort (read: wealthy older people). Nevertheless, they are still pretty :).

Cheng Ho was probably the greatest explorer of all time (I couldn’t help myself but through that in).

The glare makes it look like it is shooting something.

Beyond the tour boats though, there is something charming about the everyday boats that make their rounds around this port. From the fisherman hoping he can find some nice juicy fish:

To the cargo boat that just unloaded hella bananas:

The port is just full of interesting vessels. Coming in after a day of scuba diving, there are few better views than this one of Labuan Bajo’s port with boats struggling to get a parking spot, and its beautiful green domed mosque sneaking a peak in the background.

If you happen to call this place your home base for even a few days, make sure to look around you. You may even find some geckos big enough to belong in Komodo:

“Hey, I’m not THAT big”

What can I say, I like boats, nature, and a calm town to put it all together. It is easy to see then why I liked Labuan Bajo, even if some boats are struggling to stay afloat.

“Little help here?!”

Okay, it had been a long day. Go to sleep Labuan Bajo!
